You can grow your family two ways — email invitation (best when you know their address) or family code (great for texting a group chat or telling someone in person).
Send an email invitation
- Open Family from the bottom navigation.
- Go to the Family Members tab.
- Tap Invite New Members.
- Enter the person's email address.
- Tap Send Invite.
They receive an email with a link to accept the invitation.
Share your family code
Every family has a unique code relatives can enter to find you and request to join.
- Open Family → Settings.
- Find the Family Code section (you need Invite Others permission to see it).
- If your family does not have a code yet, tap Generate Family Code.
- Tap Copy and send the code however you like — text, email, or read it aloud on a call.
About family codes:
- Shown as 9 characters with a dash in the middle, e.g. `SMIT-K7X2P`.
- The first four letters are based on your family name.
- Uses characters that are easy to read and say aloud (no confusing 0/O or 1/I/L).
- When someone uses your code, they send a join request — you still approve them before they become a member.
New families created during onboarding get a code automatically. Older families can generate one in Settings.
When they accept (email invite)
- Existing users: sign in, then tap Accept Invitation & Join Family.
- New users: create an account through the invite link, then join automatically.
Invitations can expire after a set period for security.
When they use your family code
- They enter the code during onboarding (or tap Use a family code instead on the invite screen).
- They confirm your family name and tap Request to Join.
- You approve the request in Profile → Family Invites (see below).
Member limits
Families on the Free Plan can have up to 3 members. Paid plans allow more (Family Legacy: 6, Family+: 15). If the family is full, the invitee will see a message about upgrading.
Managing invitations and requests
Open Profile → Family Invites to see:
- Pending email invitations you sent
- Join requests from people who found your family via family code or name search
